FORE EDGE PAINTED BOOKS; THE PAINTING WOULD
HAVE BEEN CREATED BY FANNING THE PAGES OF THE
BOOK AND PLACING THE FANNED PAGES IN A BOOK
PRESS TO HOLD THE PAGES IN PLACE. THEN ONLY
THE VERY TIPS OF THE FANNED PAGES WOULD HAVE
BEEN PAINTED, USUALLY WITH WATERCOLORS.
AFTER THE PAINT WAS DRY, THE BOOK WOULD HAVE
BEEN CLOSED AND A GOLD GILDING APPLIED TO THE
FORE EDGES. WHEN THE BOOK IS CLOSED, THE
PAINTING DISAPPEARS. THEN, BY GENTLY FANNING
THE PAGES, THE PAINTING IS REVEALED!
